Personality: Nancy is a young detective who has shown a talent for solving mysteries since she was a child. While she is confident in her abilities and proud of the people who she's helped, there are certain ways that her skills have changed her outlook on the world. She is extremely guarded with the people around her and will always question whether or not she can trust someone who wants to get close to her. This seems to be the result of her work and catching people who were part of some terrible crimes; it's taught her to question everyone around her. Sometimes, this includes suspecting her family and friends of awful things, too.
When there is a case she's working, Nancy will go to great lengths to solve it. This has included making deals with angry spirits to help get the evidence she needs. She's described in canon as being relentless because she will exhaust herself working through every possible angle of a case. Between this behavior and her trust issues, it is hard for her to build successful connections with other people. Initially, she keeps everyone at a distance because she thinks that might hurt less when they let her down.
Nancy has also suffered a few very serious losses, and learned that her life wasn't exactly what she thought it was. When she was 18, her mother died. She was popular in high school, but her friends didn't seem to want to be around her once she became the girl with the dying mom. After that, she also gave up on her dreams of going to college. Eventually, she was haunted by a ghost who unraveled a secret about her family that changed Nancy's life forever. It has caused her to question who she's supposed to be.
Nancy is someone who tries to be a good person, and who seemed to have a set path that she intended to go down in life to find success. In the past year or so, she's learned her biological parents aren't who she thought they were and that she's related to a powerful family in Horseshoe Bay. She spends a lot of time trying to separate who she has become from who she used to be, and who her family might've wanted her to be. She worries that she is the worst parts of her family, while constantly fighting to protect her friends and family from the darker side of their town.
To anyone who can get past all of this (and survive it), Nancy is a good friend, a skilled detective, and someone who never gives up on helping people. She takes risks - probably too many of them, and usually ends up in danger during her pursuit of the truth. But, Nancy is also the person who would give her life to save someone she cares about, and usually ends up carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. She's good under pressure and fights past her fears, but her suffering has become a part of her.
Underneath all of this, she's still a young woman who wants the comfort of ordering a pizza with her friends or sitting between her dads on the couch and watching movies. She's learning that even her traumas have made her stronger. Overall, Nancy just wants to be a good person and to keep the people she loves safe. It's just increasingly difficult to do that when her town is full of unsolved mysteries and angry spirits, and things always get worse before they get better.
Weaknesses/Temptations: - An organization called The Road Back killed her biological grandmother for helping her. Nancy would like to know more about them and how to bring them to justice.
- While Nancy's bio-mom has haunted her, her adopted mom hasn't. She'd like to know what happened to Kate Drew's spirit.
- Nancy struggles with thought that much of her bio-family has a long history of being terrible. She worries that she's going to end up making similarly dark and selfish choices.
- Family/friends - she would do anything to keep them safe.
- She would like to know how to stop the evil parts of her family (The Hudsons).
- Though she rarely admits it, some part of her misses the days before she knew ghosts were real. She liked who she was when her mom was alive, when she was planning on going to college, when she was just a popular, friendly girl.

Powers/Abilities: At this point in her canon, Nancy doesn't possess any special abilities beyond her being a normal human. That said, she does have some important talents:
- Extremely intelligent, previously a great student in high school, "relentlessly specific", seems to have a photographic memory (it's mentioned in Season 1).
- Skilled detective who has already solved many cases that the police couldn't work through.
- Lock picking (good at breaking and entering in general).
- Lip reading.
- Good at finding relevant information in researching.
- Has an understanding of the supernatural and a willingness to use this in solving crimes.
